Yes, in true #changeitup style this January, I thought I’d switch out the bar for a different time of barre! (Maybe not totally as it WAS my Birthday!)  As a member at Virgin Active I thought I’d try a few different activities this month that I don’t usually take part in. I kind of get stuck in my ways with exercise so changing it up will take me out of my comfort zone a little!

The description promises arabesque with attitude, to master your muscles and redefine your derriere. (Could do with a little of that!) You’ll discover your dancer’s body, be supple, strong and de-stress with a class that mixes ballet, Pilates and Yoga to increase flexibility, strength and tone. It is one place you don’t need to take your tutu, your usual workout gear will suffice and as it is performed in bare feet, no specific footwear requirement either.

Make no mistake, this is not a workout comparable to a troupe of eight years olds in a church hall, Barre combines the elements of Ballet, Yoga and Pilates in a perfect balance of focus, strength and flexibility. By funking it up with some great music it becomes the adult version of a ballet class. With a cardio element in there to it really is an all round workout.

Bootybarre, the brainchild of an LA trainer and fitness guru, Tracey Mallett, is a fun, energetic, workout that fuses techniques that will tone, define and chisel the whole body.

Overall it is a fun and different way to increase your fitness and it is suitable for every fitness level. It focuses on building a strong core and strengthens the spine.

It is a great fun way to tap into your inner ballerina, and particularly if it was an activity you took part in as a child you will really enjoy it.

What are you waiting for? Get to the barre – the right one!!!
