 In the modern world, our bodies and minds are just as busy as our time schedules. We constantly have to process thoughts, emotions as well as the things that enter our systems like food, drinks, and medicines. It is no wonder that we get overwhelmed from time to time.

“Detox” may seem like a relatively new term, but did you know that our bodies have always been living the trend? Detoxing is the process of eliminating potentially damaging substances from the body that accumulate over time.

Why is it important to detox?

Every day, we are exposed to a number of potentially harmful chemicals and micro-organisms. The list of chemical substances that are regarded as foreign by the body includes pesticides, heavy metals, medications, cosmetic additives and more.

Luckily, the human body was designed to be able to detoxify these devious health threats. Our built-in detoxification system is made up of the liver, kidneys, skin, and lungs. Moreover, complex systems of various detoxification enzymes work to accomplish the task of eliminating wastes and under normal circumstances; they function effectively enough to limit potential damage.

However, our bodies are not equipped to handle the extreme volumes of toxic substances and environmental pollutants of our time. The issue may even be exacerbated by the low levels of nutrients in refined foods that are becoming ever-popular in diets these days. Research has connected impaired detoxification to the development of certain diseases like cancer, fibromyalgia and Parkinson’s disease.

To help your body deal with toxic overload you need to adapt to a healthier lifestyle to assist your biological system in becoming more proficient at eliminating dangerous toxins.

Natural body detox tips

Don’t think of detoxing as a specific diet plan you have to follow and try not to resort to over-popularised drinks, lotions or patches. Although these detox concepts encourage some positive habits they can have risks. Rather use aspects of healthy living to guide your efforts.

  • Drinking enough water is very sensible. Just remember that drinking too much water can also be dangerous.
  • For most people, a healthy diet along with regular physical activity is essential for maintaining and maximising their health.
  • It is sensible to limit your intake of caffeine or alcohol.
  • Fruits and vegetables form part of a healthy diet and it is recommended that you eat five portions daily. They are filled with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre.
  • Take regular breaks from technology. Make time to do things that do not require screens or even electricity like taking a relaxing walk.
  • Try to de-stress by writing in a journal as an outlet for your emotions and worries.

Don’t allow toxins to build-up in your body and ruin your life. Start boosting your detox system by making healthy choices.
